Caste

In this episode we introduce Dr. De Los Reyes from the University of Houston, Department Chair of Latin American Culture and Literature.  We discuss the history of the Caste System in Spain and Latin American Countries and its current effects to Latinos in America, and in different parts of the Country.  Many “aha” moments and learning about all different types of social structures, especially about using animal’s names as last names and what that might mean.  We also reviewed how Caste creates a bias to be self-aware to prevent hundreds of years of underlying influence on our daily lives.  In some cases, it may explain occurrences of perceived racism due to being a race-based system. He encourages everyone to talk more about our difficulties with an open mind and avoid cancel culture so we can speak objectively and understand points of views.

En este episodio introducimos al Dr. De Los Reyes, de la Universidad de Houston, Jefe de Departamento de Cultura Latino Americana y Literatura. Discutimos sobre la historia del Sistema Casta en España y países Latino Americanos y sus actuales efectos a los Latinos en America, en diferentes partes del país. Muchos momentos de “aja” y aprendiendo sobre todos los tipos de estructuras sociales, especialmente sobre el uso de algunos nombres de animals usados como apellidos y su significado. También revisamos como el Sistema Casta crea una inclinación a la que debemos de estar consciente para poder prevenir la influencia subyacente de cientos de años en nuestra vida diaria. En algunos casos, se puede explicar ocurrencias percibidas como racismo, basado a que el Sistema es basado en raza, como tal. Él nos motiva a todos hablar más sobre nuestras dificultades con mente abierta y evitar la cancelación de cultura para que podamos hablar objetivamente y entender puntos de vista.
